On-Call Schedules Your Team Actually Follows
Timezone-aware rotations, multi-layer fallback, and overrides for vacations, travel, and coverage swaps.
Route Alerts to Whoever Is On-Call
Rotation management with calendar preview and manual overrides. Alerts always reach the right person.
Engineering On-Call
Weekly rotation -- 4 members -- UTC-8
Rotations That Run Themselves
Set up your rotation once and alerts are automatically routed to whoever is on-call.
Flexible Rotation Types
Weekly, daily, or custom date ranges. Choose the rotation cadence that fits your team's size and availability. Handoff times are configurable down to the hour.
Multi-Layer Support
Configure primary and secondary on-call layers. If the primary responder does not acknowledge within the escalation window, the secondary is notified automatically.
Manual Overrides
Need to cover for a teammate? Create a temporary override for specific dates. The override takes precedence over the normal rotation and appears highlighted on the calendar.
Built for Distributed Teams
Timezone-Aware
Each schedule has its own timezone. Rotations are evaluated in the schedule's timezone so handoffs happen at the right local time for your team. A team in London and a team in San Francisco can each have schedules that make sense for their hours.
Calendar Preview
A visual calendar shows exactly who is on-call on every day. Overrides are highlighted so the team can see at a glance when the normal rotation has been adjusted. Export the schedule to iCal for integration with personal calendars.
Escalation Policy Integration
On-call schedules plug directly into escalation policies. When an alert fires, the escalation step targets the on-call schedule instead of a specific person. The schedule resolves to whoever is currently on-call at that moment.
Handoff Notifications
When on-call duty transfers from one person to the next, both the outgoing and incoming responder receive a notification. The incoming responder sees any currently open incidents that need attention, so nothing is lost during the transition.
How On-Call Schedules Work
Create a Schedule
Name the schedule, set the timezone and rotation type (weekly, daily, or custom), and add your team members in rotation order.
Link to Escalation
Reference the schedule in your escalation policy steps. When an alert fires, Metric Tower resolves the schedule to the current on-call responder.
Override When Needed
Going on vacation? Create an override for specific dates. The override responder takes all on-call duties for that period without disrupting the normal rotation.
Review the Calendar
The calendar view shows the full rotation with color-coded assignments and override highlights. Everyone on the team can see who is on-call at any point.
On-Call Scheduling for Security Teams
Manage on-call rotations with timezone-aware scheduling, multi-layer support, and manual overrides. Integrated directly with escalation policies so alerts always reach the person who is responsible right now.
